It may be firing correctly on the flywheel timing, but it may be firing on the exhaust stroke instead of the compression stroke. Easy mistake. Will cough and spit through the carby as it tries to fire if this is the case.

No coughing, no spitting, no attempts to fire at all.

I know the ignition timing is correct, it is firing number one spark plug when number one piston is on compression, at a few degrees (3 ish) BTDC.

Hey, that confirms the cam timing too! Hmm,

Keep your ideas coming!! Anyone else want to throw in an opinion for a spark plug Gap for NGK BP6ES on a Vhigh compression A series on points, running AvGas?

Cheers

Matt

you sure you have compression with this, have you taken the rocker cover off to make sure you have the valve timing right,

i drove my car around heaps, for nearly a year and then left it for 2 months and wouldn't start, it twas the leads,

Yep, well actually, it is the old thumb over the spark plug hole trick. Hard to miss that. (but yes, valve / cam timing is correct.)

I also get spark from each of the spark plugs, so leads aren't an obvious candidate. Might take a known set up to check them against. Good to rule these things out.

Hmmm, how can I check the accelerator pump action of the weber? Without removing it?

Thanks Guys!

Matt

I put a brand new Holley on my Holden and had to the fill the bowls with petrol the first time before it ran. I couldn't work it out for ages. It just must have been the accelerator pump cavitating or something. I don't know if a weber is the same but try filling the float bowls with petrol.

Thanks Guys, it is good to have some more ideas. (Yep Anthony, even yours   Bro Town rules eh bro)

The float bowl is filling, checked that one, I can also see the fuel getting into the cylinders.

Haven't tried any of the Aerostart type products yet. Will avoid that if I can.

Hmmm, it's when I need to do things like pulling out pump jets (thanks Doc) i wish I had me a Weber Manual. Anyone recommend a good one?

Next step is to adjust the spark plug gap down a bit, (0.032" to 0.025") try again (with a smidge of choke) and if that doesn't work, bleed the brakes then roll down a big hill, and roll start it! (so the starter isn't taking valuable power from the ignition system.)

Cheers

Matt

Pump jets are under 2 brass plugs on top ie. in line with the carby barrels, near the idle mixture adjuster screws.

Try putting your hand over the air inlets whilst cranking, that'll choke it.

2 much air? How is your manifold gasket, flexible weber seal or have you forgotten to block the vacuum hole in the manifold.

yeah, it sounds like he`s just not used to a weber & it being a fresh engine he`s probably babying it

give it a few more pumps & then pump it while you`re cranking

get a second battery hooked up just for the starter if your litte race battery is down in grunt, so you`re not stealking power from the coil while cranking

it`ll fire up, just have faith & hold your tongue to the left side , lower section of your mouth & away she will go

:-)

Check your compression with a guage, 50psi could feel like 150psi but the motor probably won't go,
also check vacuum lines, are you running a power booster for the brakes, check that yo're not loosing vacuum through that,
have you got the rubber o rings between the carby and the manifold and are they in good condition, has the carby been jetted for a mini?

My checklist would be Compression, Timing, Vacuum leaks,
then start getting desperate and tow start it
