I like the ticking.. became part of the start-up procedure! was good to know the fuel pump was still working!

key in ignition
listen for clicking - check
prime carby - pump accelerator twice
press starter button
let all hell break loose.

Someone should start a poll.....put me down in favour of the tick

My first introduction to SU pumps was with an old 1960
MkII Jag. I too became endeared with the ticking.
The car had a push button and the carbys had an enricher (no choke).
So I was quite pleased that me little MG 1100 had a SU pump,
might even install a little start push button. Forget the enricher

Converting the points to transister is the go. Cheap too.
Still get the comforting ticking sound.
Plans are on the net.

no, they're discussing electric fuel pumps, you've got a mechanical one that is attached to the motor, no ticking

Yeah do use exhaust mounts, but those little rear ones are too stiff.

Use the big square centre zorst mount- the 2 bolt holes line up with the pump. :D

BTW the pump is supposed to be on a 45° angle by their book (but yeah they do work OK horizontal)

my son's Clubby (Satan's Rollerskate) had a Facet pump on the firewall - damn near drove me mad, you could hear it over the exhaust - in fact it was the only thing you could hear over the exhaust

Complaining about a Ticking sound  at least you would know when you have ran out of petrol

One tick on start up.

Otherwise turn your Music up

These pumps need to be situated below the tank don't they :?: I reckon if you ran out of petrol in this one you would have to put over half a tank full in it to get it going.

On my MG 1100 it's actually in the boot at the top of the tank.
But the intake pipe would naturally have to be directed to bottom
of the tank.

Do mean 45 degrees from the inlet to the outlet?

Can they be mounted and work OK upside down? (have seen this done a few times)

Also - I notice that the Facet have a filter on the inlet brass thing - is this neccessary or can you just use a plain ryco one on the rubber fuel line coming into the pump and not have one up near the carby - or would you use 2?

Facet say you should have an intake filter of some sort. There is a gauze in the tank, unless you've relined the tank and then had to bash a hole through the strainer. I did this with my RH tank, then put a Ryco filter there. So far, so good.
If running SUs, no other filter is needed if you have a strainer. With a Weber or Dellorto I add a Purolator glass filter up near the carby.
Don't use these filters under the car, if a rock hits it you will be up the creek.
