well does it engage all of the other gears easily? if so i wouldnt worry about it because im assuming its a 3 syncro box.. they dont like going into first i know i cringe when i select first in mine while the car is still rolling slightly.. its not the easiest thing

i have the tin type master cylinder does that come in both sizes

could it be the slave cylider

Not sure about new tin type ones but the old tin type clutch ones were .75".
It's the BIG plastic cap Oz ones that have both sizes and look the same.. sometimes the size is marked on the body, 1/2 way up.

Slave cylinders are all the same (7/8") but the seal may be leaking air in on the back stroke. Has a similar effect. Common problem...

So was it the bent arm or the bleeding that fixed it? 8)

bit of both bleeding it again allowed me to get it into 1st much better like 60 -70% of the time now the bent arm gives me 90-95% 1st gear engagement first time without selecting another gear first

Some things to consider

The piston in the slave (with the straight arm) could be hitting the circlip the bent one pushes the piston in further so you could have more travel.

Also ensure you use the correct return spring.
