Yes, it's here in WA. They say that they are waiting for more parts to make the whole process more economical for them.

My previous crank (unwedged, also stroked) cracked. The mechanic took to it with a file and it cut away like butter. He said: "Moron didn't heat-treat it."

My new crank will be wedged and stroked, so I really want the heat-treating done. Just wish the bar-stards would hurry the f up.

Thanks for that.
This 12G1505 crank is hardly used- std/std, and now 84.3mm stroke. Is it likely to warp during nitriding, and need regrinding?
More $$$ if so.....

Kev, they usually grow about 0.003" and warp about 0.008"

I'd be heat-treating it THEN finish grinding to size..... thats what they did to mine..... seems pretty good so far ! (withstood the famous Wakefield park Trip.....)

Once you have done your wedging, stroking and finish grinding, send it to be nitrided. During the process it does bend but don't dispare they straighten it and it comes back to you to give the journals a light linish with scotchbrite and fit it ready to do battle :D

Forgot to ad Heat treatment Australia's website.

http://www.heat.com.au

I get all the cranks nitrided for the motors I have built for this NB race car.
Also run either a 4 bolt centre main or at least a centre main strap

I still haven't got it back. I'm going to ring this company directly (as MiniCraft here in WA organised it) and demand that my crank is done this week. This wait is ridiculous. I'll just take my business elsewhere and organise someone else to do it myself.

I think they are called St George Heat treatment? I will find my paper work and send you a post. May take over the weekend before i find it, if thats ok.

No problem.
My crank was stroked by Spiro, at St George Crankshafts, maybe related.. :?:
he's just around the corner where I work..

just out of interest....is shot peening only for non bearing surfaces like rods :?:

and yes Nitriding or Tuftriding is only case hardening for maybe 10 thou :?: :?: ...I too have heard that a crank can be ruined if not done correctly... :?

I know some racers (and well known Mini engine builders) who won't take the risk.
But I'll talk to Spiro this week.
