OK I have officially given up on fitting the HS6, GR7" manifold and Ramflo filter in my 1970 roundy.
Even with a 90° angle box on the speedo, the Ramflo will not fit in there. I would have to move the instrument panel into the cabin.

So, the carb, manifold and filter will be for sale soon.
Perfect for one of those later model flat chested Minis. :P

The 45 Dellorto is going back in, but with 36mm chokes in it instead of 38s. This should pull the torque figure up a bit.

Cmon Kev, not like you to give up that easy.
Chong bought one too... does yours have the box cut out for the carb or not - cant remember for the life of me.

Graham angles the manifolds, has yours been angled?

Pete

Chong tried one, his didn't fit either. Even with his Weber box in. So he's still running the Dellorto.
No, mine has no Weber box but I've cut the hole away as much as I'm going to.
Carby is not the problem. The filter just about hits the speedo. And they are shorter than all the others.

Yes the manifold is angled up, but the problem is the overall length. Yes it will fit with NO filter, but I'm not running a road motor without one.

The only roundy I've seen where it all fitted (with a filter) was Greig's GF's MiniMatic, but Matic motors are mounted more forward in the subframe than manuals, by 20mm or so.

Is it the cable or the speedo that is the problem?

Can you make a spacer to shift the whole speedo inside the car by 20-30mm and sneak the cable under/over/around the filter?

I have been thinking that a spacer around the speedo housing where it mounts to the firewall would do the trick. You could also do this and run the cable sideways out of the speedo housing and through a new hole in the firewall if necessary.

cheers
michael

What about a smal 'plenum' type of air box and a remote airfilter? :) Sort of lwhat the Bertone Innocentis got?

Of course a little bit more sophisticated :)

How about a short ram tube and a "sock" type air filter. Thats what I did with the last long manifold & weber I fitted to a mini. The back of the speedo gets a bit oilly from the sock but it all gets squeezed in there ok.

Im gonna +1 this one Kev, a motorbike sock with a small spring (which you could easily cut down if need be) would be a suitable option and make all the young hip kids go, ga ga oooooooooo...... :P (cause you would be even cooler than you are now... gets it?)

They used to sell an oval standoff for the binnacle years ago. But IMO it just looks wrong in a road car.
If the cable is off it will fit. OK on an Nb racer.. not for the road.
If the cable is on, the filter plate hits the cable. It would have to go through the damn filter.
If a 90° box is on the speedo the filter foam cover will hit that.

Nope it ain't broke with the 45 Dellorto so I'll use that instead. HP was the same @6500, and I think midrange was only down because the thing had 38mm chokes in (the head isn't ported real big, the one on the 1360 is better)- it now has 36s.

[edit] it's in now, not fully tuned the jetting yet but it's got good midrange torque with the Dellorto.

Not such a bad idea that. Don't know how that will affect the flow though

Mine has 36mm chokes and is excellent for midrange torque.

I found 38s better for HP in the 1360, but it's a Dellorto not a Weber. They seem to like big chokes more than Webers do.
