The top number Morris 850 that I have seen is only a couple of hundred away from the total figure in the book.

I don't actually have the book, someone posted a photo of the page with the production figures in their ebay ad for the book! :lol:

Thanks for the summary Watto.

I've gotta get back to my mate & let him know he has one of the last 500 De Luxe's ever built, and that he might have the youngest one left in existence!

He's not so young himself, so might be good motivation to rip-in and get started on the resto ;)

You've probably seen the following Service Bulletin which reinforces the March 1965 start date for introduction of the Deluxe. I thought others might be interested.

210** sold in February 1967 (average ~ 891 per month)
25766 sold in June 1967 (701 per month)
31795 sold in March 1968 (869 per month)
32800 was the change-over for wipers in mid-1968
34738 sold in February 1969 (713)
37512 sold in March 1969 (755)

...
BMC Australia was a leader in "just-in-time" production methods, years before the term was coined.

Hi.

My Deluxe is a November/December '65 build, and reg'd 14 January '66.
Its car number 12870.

So between January '66 and the August '66 car data so far that would make 805 sales per calendar month(?)

I have a feeling that despite the PR spin from BMC the sales of the Deluxe were never as good per month as the Morris 850.
The reason was probably the Morris 1100 was taking sales from the Deluxe.

The figures on Phil Rixons http://www.elevenhundred.com/marketshare.php/ seem to indicate that.

I reckon your right.
If you were going to by a morris as a useful family car, you would have bought an 1100 over a Deluxe, and any saleman would have upsold the 1100 over a mini. My mini was bought new only as a onr person commuter/work car as the family had a '65 Wolseley for "proper" family driving.

They needed the Mini as bait to get the buyer into the showroom. :lol:
The 1100 was very popular just like the Mini was 3 years earlier.

If you combine the Mini Deluxe and the Morris 1100 figures they were doing very well.
The two cars shared a lot of mechanical components and this would helped when one did sell more than the other.

That sounds more like one of those Mini Cooper S or some such.... :wink:
