Doc i thought of back flushing the oil line with petrol after dumping out the oil in the hope it will dissolve the Vasoline or would diesel be better?

Or would i be doing irretrievable damage to the oil pump????

I'd use diesel... unlike petrol it has some lubricating properties.
But if still NFG, either the strainer is blocked or it's sucking air.

or, the oil pump pegs could be broken

or maybe there`s no oil pressure relief valve fitted, or not seated

or the oil pump bolts are too long & not nipping the pump to the blo9ck properly

or,,, any number of other reasons

but--> I reckon vaso is crap for priming oil pumps (just my thoughts from hearing & seeing sooooo many people get stuck with it over the last 40 (Plus) years)

& i use STP to prime pumps & never a problem even when left for years & years before starting, "ALWAYS" gets pressure up within 20-30 secs

STP costs $$, so I use a little 140 gear oil.

don't put thick sh*t in there, really good way to bust a pump drive. If it doesn't pump engine oil, putting thick stuff in won't fix it. Undo oil preesure switch and pressurise into it with compressor, hold pressure for 10mins, that'll push any vaso out, then prime with oil can, if you still have nothing you'll need to pull the engine

ah,,, we`ve been using STP for more than 40 years, me , my dad, all our mechs (probly more than 40 mechs that have come through our workshops over the years) Robbo & his mechs & there`s plenty plenty more who also swear by it also

not one broken pump drive from using STP,,, period

i`d imagin that`s well into the "Thousands" of engines we`ve collectively built using STP

it's pushing bubbles out of the line from the oil pump, and the sump is full - air is being sucked in - strip it

I took your advice on that Matt with my last 2 engine builds (mine and one for a mate) and it worked a treat. The last one I also mixed moly grease in with the STP and used it as assembly lube. Made the most beautiful black sticky goo :D

I take out the oil pressure switch and using a bit of 3/16" rubber vacume hose and oil can, pump as much as you can in. Works every time for me.

I do that also, but with a 1l pressurised oil tank- fill the tank up with oil, then pressurise it with the compressor and blow it through - oil comes up through the rocker shaft
