In an attempt to be more helpful your mates 71 HQ is after the dates quoted in this thread therefore should have them. My fathers 71 HQ kingswood wagon had them from the factory, but I think Holden might be out of stock now.

I know here in wa. Pre 69 vehicles have no legal obligation to have rear belts engineered when fitted. My 68 deluxe I have welded in the complete rear shelf from a clubman and my 67 is gonna get some heavy reinforcement done before fitting.

A couple of things that may be of interest.

Front seat belt mounting points were incorporated in the Mini body during production long before the ADR was introduced. Below is a page from the Driver's Handbook TP757a dated March 1966.

Also below is the factory drawing detailing the installation of later style belts in the Mini (primarily in the Clubman). These are effectively the instructions to the seat belt installers to ensure they were fitted correctly and consistently on the production line.

Did they provide any guidance on the positioning of the holes in the parcel tray?

My parents had a 1971 HQ Premier and it had rear belts, chrome buckles with a black button with the embossed lion Holden emblem.
The tongue was chrome with a rectangular slot that was useful as a bottle opener.

The rear parcel shelf engineering drawing would show that. I'll see if I can find it.

In the installation drawing I posted earlier it is assumed that mounting points are already part of the body shell, that's why there isn't any dimensional data showing their precise location.

Certainly for the front, but not the rear. My 62 has the belt mounts for example, and it won't have been the first.

Thanks Doug.

Yes, you are correct (that's why I intentionally mentioned front in the post with the handbook image).

Here's the back parcel shelf drawing. You can see the angled reinforcement bars added for strength, and the position of the seat belt mounting points.

Cheers mate, yep that sounds like them. He mentioned the front ones that he has have the lion on the buckle, but from 72 onwards they had GM on them apparently? The 71 belts might be similar to the HG belts perhaps?

That's exactly what my wife often says. :)

Here's a picture of her I took during a recent storm. She wanted to know why I had moved her coffin so I could get my Mini in out of the rain.

If you do a search on the words rear seat belt there's quite a few threads with some good info. Perhaps a lot of padding and repeats to get to the juicy bits but still worthwhile for anyone about to do this on their vehicle.

Here's some pictures (mostly courtesy of Morris 1100 from another thread) showing the factory rear seat belt fittings. As your mechanic said, the outside ones are in the wheel arches.

Watch the length of those rear wheel arch bolts.

I've been caught twice before with the bolts gouging the sidewalls of my tyres. There's not as much room as you might expect under there.
