Should be OK, 10w/40 is commonly used overseas.

I emailed Penrite and got to communicating with a tech. I am using Penrite Classic Light specifically designed for layed up engines. A good thread though becasue i have registered that particular car last month and its headed for a fresh oil change.

It may be dearer but i got the Penrite on special. Its a good point to buy Australian made.

I find this thread quite interesting, I have always used the HPR30 since getting my mini, but maybe I should try something else.

My engine and box is a little sick and when cold it sometimes refuses to go into second gear and clonks/crunches into others even when crawling - the box itself isn't great but it has gotten worse since the weather has started cooling down.

On a manual 4 synch box, would the difference between 20w60 (hpr30) and 20or25w50 alter the smoothness of gear change? Or is it very minimal? I'm just trying to nurse it until the other engine can be built

James

I think most 20W (whether /50 or /60) oils are much the same when cold. I found the Castrol Edge 25W/50 to be a bit stiffer on the shifting in winter, but at $50 a can I don't use it now.

Penrite and Gulf Western are the same oil. Both come from the same plant and are owned by the same parent company.
Cheers Pete
