Completed a 140 mile trip on Christmas Day in 37 degree heat and 3 people on board. Filled up twice to check progress along the way. First check got 37.5mpg, up from the starting point of 30mpg. Looking good. Next fill up got 40.4mpg, rapped in that. Overall got 39mpg. Pretty good considering the 37 degree heat, water temperature ran at about 190 degrees, a tad up but gee it was a stinking hot day, and engine still only has 250 miles on it since rebuild, so all is looking good. I even pulled over for a red 850 that had overheated !

Even though these figures are good, I have procured a right hand su body with a vacuum advance nipple on it. Throttle bushes are good. As I like to tinker, in a few days I will install this and hook up the vac advance and go for another economy test. Got nothing to loose.

Just a thought. Does anyone out there have the specs on the 29d non vacuum advance type distributor ,which I am led to believe was in late Cooper S or maybe possibly 1100 S. Would there be any advantage of installing this type of 29d as opposed to what I already have or am I wasting my time. Was the specs any different to the normal 29d vacuum advance type which are reasonably common in 1098 engines.
