Finished splicing the Rover column into the Moke. Discovered a radiator leak at the overflow pipe. :(

Talked crap with Mick as his wife clucked over my 10 day old daughter. :)

My mate brought his Morris 850/Cooper S around, it was running like a hairy goat. Missing, farting, flat spots... He blamed the Dellorto 45 carby on it.
Actual problem was, he had recently fitted new points, and gapped them to about .035" (guess). And the dizzy shaft bushes are worn too.
I closed them up to .015", it runs OK now.
Similar hairy running happens if they get nearly closed up...

We can see a recurved Nissan Pulsar dizzy in this car's future. 8)

Chased down the last leaks in the new zorst and sealed them with a little Permatex red silicone gasket material. No puff-puff any more :)

Noticed the coil has made a couple of bids for freedom from its bracket, so found a bolt the right size to pinch it closed, ground out the holes to slots so the coil clears, and nipped it all up tight. Ain't going nowhere now 8)

Gave the e-tag a squirt of black paint, I hate seeing the ugly white wart on the windscreen. Don't know it's there now :D

So I've been working on my A+ auto, and moding the subframe to fit my Moke.
Early this morning I was confident to put it in, I have taken my time with the subframe, auto engine mounts, CVs (who knew the inside pot joints didn't fit through the hole in the subframe? Guess that bit of learning comes from getting a 'running engine unit' in bits... :? I was so proud of my CVs and shaft all tidy on the bench, then had to stuff around though the subframe...) cooling system mix of A series Moke and A+ confusion...

Any way long story so far huh!?
So during the building phase on the bench I made a couple of wooden blocks to stop the subframe dancing around, few Tek screws presto.
BUT some twit forgot to undue the rear screws holding the bits of wood underneath the back tips of the subframe (hey it was an early start Ok!) any way, the whole lots fits great, except now I need to crawl underneath and work out how to remove the screws, heads won't go through the bolt holes into the cabin, so I'm thinking destroy the wood, cut the screws and slip them out. I don't really want to lift it off again.....

Ok so thats as far as I got, off to work laughing at myself all day.....

Painted some brushable tar onto wheel arch side of the welds (after painting cold gal paint the other day)

Finished the A panel - discovered the bottom hinge doesn't sit straight (in line with the side of the car but points into the car a bit  )

Took the windows out, the doors off and the plate covering the heater hole, with a little help from my grinder.

Sent my car off to be soda blasted, some new panels and painted!

Pulled the float bowl lid off and cleaned everything with degreaser and elbow grease. (Ran out of carby cleaner, always run out of the one can I need!). Also cleaned the gasket (getting on) and screws and reattached.

No more leaks! Though I'll wait a week before calling my hunt for all engine bay smells a success.

Took it for a ride, filled up with gas and realized I left my wallet at home AGAIN  The servo guys are used to the dopey mini driver now, so wasted some precious 98 going home to get it.

Now getting the urge to do more tuning. To the hinderance of my job searching and other work. Need to gap the plugs, and do valve clearances. Itching to try my hand at playing with timing but I'll have to wait till I can buy a colortune (to check carby is properly setup) and a timing light.

Well I found out that the steel bodies from old washing machines make great replacement metal for panel repairs. Fixed a few rust holes in the floor of my mini and underneath the sill panel. Which made a much better repair than the bodgy one the last owner did...
