Did a trial build of my S diff. Of course the new fibre washers they sell here in Sydney are STILL too damned thick... :x
I'll have to surface grind the centre spacer a little, as usual.

Spent over $130 on comp diff pin, 2 gears and thrust washers... around 1/3 what I could get a new X-pin diff for!

yep... bugger repairing old diffs with the rubbish replacement parts we get these days. My ultra u-beaut EN40 diff pin and new spider gears lasted 3 motorkhanas before everything shattered

x-pin is diff-ing just fine

Went to a car show put on by the Rickswaws hot rod club. Lots of cars (althought the weather may have kept a few away today), Rods, customs, classics (including 5 minis) and bikes. Always a great day down on the lake at Swansea

might just drop the front subframe on trevor today. Then it might be time to start spending a little bit of time and money on him.

I attempted to put the 1098 crank into Gafmo's 998 block.
Crank is 20/20 and straight.
When we drop it into 2 new -.020" ACL main bearings (front and back) with `998' on the box, it won't turn freely. And if you tighten the caps lightly it won't turn at all. what the...

Hmmm... the penny dropped eventually when I looked at the centre main shells installed.
They are 1/8" too long!! Should be 1-1/16", they are 1-3/16" (850 ones)
<edit> so they foul on the journal radii.

Let's read the ACL box then:
848, 948, 998. Huh??
1. Somebody should have told ACL that a 998 uses 1098 bearings, not 850 ones.
2. The people that sell these bearings in Mini spare parts shops ought to know they are wrong for a 998.

yep another weekend without any progress on the Motor but at least the crank is straight as now  thanks GR. Atleast next weekend we should be able to a bit of work on it and maybe get it to a short engine stage.
I went home with the huffs. De sided to do more of the wiring. All grommets are in and wiring is hidden in the engine bay nicely. Fixed the relay and fuse box in and cleaned up the wiring. about 2-3 hours work and the wiring will be done just a few more odds and sods to do and get

Put my daughter and wife in, drove to Glenelg and parked. Then we wandered about and looked at a bunch of other minis, then got back in and drove home 8)
