Pulled the 1098 crank and pistons out of the spare block I had and checked it over.. It's had some work done. The oil journals line up with the holes in the bearing caps for one thing. It looks pretty good, might be time to have a stroker 998 :)

Austin costin why are you pulling out a 970 S motor and putting in a 1275

You've obviously not driven a 970, all noise no go unless they are tuned within an inch of there lives  besides the cooper car co mk2s all had 1275 non S motors.

Went up via Berowra Waters, and back via Galston Gorge.

I honed my skills.....

Tossing the 1098 crank to the side of the shed until I get it re-ground or decide to use it as a door stop. The pistons skirts are all scored aswell, so something nasty must have happened to it at some stage.

When people put new rings on do you use the pliers that are available or do it by hand and pray to the mini gods that they don't snap? I've done it by hand beore on a Hilux ute, but I considered myself extremely lucky that time around..

Finished putting the engine in the deluxe.
Bled the clutch,
Bled the brakes
Took the car for a test drive.
All finished but probably needs a good tune now.

Before - broken gearbox and crappy paint job.

After - reco gearbox, reground camshaft, new bearings nicely painted. :) :)

On the weekend I:

Pulled out the old dash, dash cards and the carpet that was on the shelf plus the dodgy speedo housing I had put in and replaced with new:
- Vinyl dash mat
- Vinyl dash cards
- New oval dash with my nice new gauges, except speedo (its on the list)
- New chrome tacho pod - plus fixed/tidied the wiring

I also fitted headlight grilles
Removed the stereo from its mount and fixed it plus some wiring. Also fixed the amp.
Fixed up the wiring for my parking lights.

Next weekends list includes. sanding and painting new steering column and shroud + fitting both.
Modifying my seat mounts so that they are more upright.
Maybe making an under-seat speaker board.

Ryan didn't you have a round binnacle before?

Did nothing on my mini but replaced the clutch line on Molly for Andy although not sure how successful it was

Managed to limp my mini to work with its blown headgasket today, so when i knocked off i pulled the motor out in the hour i waited for my dad to pick me up. Guess i'm going to be building my new supercharged motor quick now as the mini is my daily drive.

Yeah I did have an oval binnacle before, but it was the type with green lights in it, but never actually had the lights. But because i'm putting everything MK1 on it, i changed to this style and I have the mk1 indicator arm to go on (the type with the green light on the end.
