Time for another update.

I can expect one first.
Firstly my apologies guys. Time ended up against us -- we had to be in Beechworth by 4pm to meet up with the family, so we weren't able to stop anywhere. As it turned out, we were late

We did end up taking a diversion, but not over the Snowy's, instead we left the Hume at Gundagai and made for Adelong, Batlow, Tumbarumba, Corryong, then Beechworth via Tallangatta. That stretch of the B400 between Corryong and Tallangatta was
fun.. lots of fast sweepers, dipping and diving, and no traffic

The new disc brakes and suspension are
awesome, I've never had so much confidence throwing the Mini into the bends, and its ability to stop on the long downhill descents has to be experienced to be believed.

Anyway, after the minor scare in Newcastle with the alternator, the Mini didn't skip a beat. All the way down it held 65psi oil pressure, and the temperature never ventured above normal, with the exception of the long hill climbs around Batlow. The only surprise was the oil consumption -- we were putting around half a litre of oil in at every fuel stop

No way would us young'ns get that mileage!

Yep, you're right there

With me behind the wheel (and 5-10km/h greater road speed...

) the Mini literally
drank the fuel... all of about 0.75 L/100 more
Yesterday's fills were: Pennant Hills (19.4L) for 7.0 L/100km, Yass (19.8L) for 6.8 L/100km, and Corryong (18.0L) for 6.6 L/100km. Overall, so far we've done 1580km on 106L, for an average 6.7 L/100km. Can't complain about that
Today we're making for Melbourne. If the weather holds we'll take the fun route (Whitfield, Mansfield, Yea, Flowerdale, Whittlesea), otherwise it's the boring but safe Hume.
