... replaced the unis last nite after about 4 hrs and alot of swearing and cursing ever buyin the van but it was done.... this morning however more swearing and grief followed when i realised that the vibration is still there and gets really bad the faster u go and the higher the revs.

its only happening on acceleration mainly the engine tells to bounce around in 3rd and 4th gear at a cruising speed. im starting to think its the gearbox going or the motor. also this afternoon the car was richened to the max and the revs were set higher then usual, was set by the previous owner any reason why though?

does anyone else have any possible reason for this?

Anyone else? What about the perfectly good advice you've already been given?

Did you check your engine mounts? By your own admission the engine moves around a lot.. if they're shagged your new uni's are going to last approximately no time at all and may well take the gearbox with them.

ok,,, firstly,,, when-ever you change your uni joints,,, you will need to fit them , but just loose,,, in other words "Don`t tighten the u-bolts",,, then lower the car onto the ground (or jack the wheel assys) so the axles are at a level where they`re goin to be whilst driving,,, "Then" do the U-bolts up

if you have the car jacked up & fit new rubber uni joints, & if you tighten them up in situ,,, then when you lower the car back down onto it`s wheels,,, the rubber in the uni joints twist up cronically & then they stay twisted up & remain under that tension the entire time driving & will not last very long at all

& also (as morris1100 said) don`t over tight them either,,, only nip the nuts up till they bind on the nylock part (the book says 8lbs from memory,,, memory is failing miserably these days tho,,, what were we talking about agin?????

If you have the nylon u/js,,, then totally disregard everything i just typed (except the part about not over tightening them,,, the nylon ones distort badly & won`t last long either if over tightened

Maybe it`s just a case of sloppy engine mounts & engine steadys & some part of the engine is rubbing on the subframe &/or body,,, like the exhaust or gearshift for example,,, check all that first & repair as necessisary & then if all that fails , type more grief storys on here & we`ll keep stuffing with your head about your engine being stuffed :-)

As everyone else has already said check your engine mounts and engine steady rubbers/remote gearchinge mounts . Try and move the engine around by hand and see if it moves much or barely , and also if it moves in any particular direction . Failing that take it to a mini friendly mechanic and then don't %@%^ with it yourself afterwards .

buckled rim? wheels out of balance? subframe bolts tight? maybe send it to a mechanic to check it over it could be a safety hazard to you and others if something lets go.
