So what should it be for an 1100s 1275?
I bet some of you know where this is going.....

43 lb/ft according to the book. That's for an S, it's what I use.

Some Oz 1098s with bolts are supposed to have them at 50 lb/ft but these days the old bolts break.. I will never use another headbolt.. :evil:

Interesting as i have a dozen manuals and some say 42, 54, 65.......
42 is what i did and it leaked still. Graham russell gave it a skim and the head is now flat but i still have the same issue with 42ft/lbs....
So i tightened to 54ft/lbs and it seems not to leak....
I am so confused! :cry:

Check your torque wrench calibration.. some are miles out! :lol:

yeah you are right it's 42, not 43.. dunno where you got the others though!

I have an old dial one here I use to check my Kinchrome `clicky' one against.
As it's just a simple beam in bending, I think it's fairly predictable. Bring yours over sometime and I'll compare it. :wink:

What happens if you over tighten head bolts? What's right for a 998 / 1098?

The book says 40 lb/ft if you have nuts & studs.. like yours. :wink:
I loosen each one 1/8 turn then tighten, move to next one and repeat. Follow tightening sequence in book. Middle one outwards.

Good idea to recheck rocker clearances afterwards.
