Hi, Can anyone tell me if the engine number 8AM/U/H is a UK built or Australian built engine?

This is the engine number that was on the Traveller, we're trying to work out if this is the original engine or its been replaced?

Thanks

Janelle :D

it's an 850 motor.... since it's a UK build, you ought to be able to get a heritage certificate done for it, I think they have records of what engine in what car

It's in an Australian car, but the early 850 motors were all imported. Not much Oz content in these motors, until the Mini Deluxe.

I was hoping the [A] at the end of that number at that web site did not mean australian, I was hoping that we had the original engine.

Thanks for the bad news gafmo

In my list it just says 8AM prefix used on Austin/Morris 850 from 25,000 on. So IMO that makes it UK made (as we never got Austin).

8AM was used both here and over there.. my `62 850 had that prefix.

Thanks Doc,

In saying that, If we have it restored are we safe to say that it is a Restored Original if we retain this motor?

Does the body number match up with what hotbricks says?

Is the engine number stamped into the block or on a plate riveted to the block. A lot of UK ones have the riveted plate, but if the car was SOLD in australia it would have had the number stamped into the block. The POMS must have been more trusting back then eh?

The number is stamped but you can see where the rivets were.
