ok so i dont have much knowledge about what things are called so i'll try to make this as easy as it is to understand...

the story: i was sittin at the lights, waiting for them to turn green, when they turned green i went to put it in 1st gear and "what the $^&%?" the gear stick went HEAPS to the left, so i couldnt get it in gear and once everyone went past me i reversed it back and parked on the side of the road (yes, thats right, i can get it into reverse easily)

so i pulled up my gear stick cover to take a look and that pipe thing (sorry) connected to the gear stick seem to be loose and it turns/rolls left when i push the gearstick over. so im just guessing that i can tighten this up pretty easily? but not sure? anyone know whats wrong, why it happened, and how i can fix it?

thanks alot

Rod change has two rods comming from the gearbox Or A Remote whic has a box from the box to the selector
It could be a number of things. But you will have to take the boot of anyway.
Remote it could just be the two screws ontop could be loose..Otherise pull the stick out let us know what you see

To pull that apart, it has a bayonet fitting (just like a light bulb - twist anti-clockwise) and pull the cover off. When mine went west, the end of the gear lever has a little spherical ball attached, but mine was no longer attached. In your case though you may have to look underneath (its a rod change mechanism) and check that the little rubber "cotton reel" mounting bits have not broken.

mine does it too..

they just do it...

happens sometime when you stick it in reverse and push it the wrong way or twist it... just fling it round until it goes back in :)

Maybe not quite, the solid gear levers are OK but the two piece ones have a rubber insert between the lever and ball end. Thats where those ones expire and the stick at the top does not move the ball at the bottom.. where mine went.

ok thanks, but just to make sure everyone is talkin about the same thing... its not the stick and the ball thing that im having a problem with. its the whole thing that its connected too... the big pipe which is turning. i'll have to get under it tomorrow and see if i can screw it to something

ive worked out that i can drive it fine if i be gentle, and turn the radio on... cause its makin a new noise :? better to pretend some things just arent there

Hey stuvz, That is what my remote change was doing and as was said by circus_maximus, its most likely to be the little cotton reel mount underneath, pretty easy to replace.
Steve.
