i have a 71 moke and am having nothing but trouble with the clutch. i have replaced all the parts but still can't get the adjustment right. i have bled the system and am confident that there is no air in the system. If i back off the adjustment then the slave cylinder won't push the rod out far enough. Is my clutch plate stuffed?

yeah i have but according to all the manuals you should have a clearance between the top of the bolt and the arm. if I wind the bolt in to obtain the clearance the slave can't push the clutch out far enough.

noooooo you get some one to push the clutch in then adjust bolt and keep doing it till you get a good clutch BUT you dont want it sitting hard against the arm

Adelaide...Hmmm. I might know someone who can help

Brickworx, Mini Tech, and Minisport are the most popular workshops. (Some will charge the earth, some will help out and just want a bottle of Vodka for their expertise... Brickworx Racing is my preferred, not that we're naming any names  )

Okays, so with the clutch arm, pull it outwards with your hand, towards the inner wheelarch. This is the gap you will need to measure with the feeler gauges. Dont, like me at first, try to adjust with the clutch arm (and spring on top attatched) pushing against the lil' bolt. This will help you... Not at all.

Try for what the workshop manual suggests, but i find that a little extra here or there may be needed. You'll feel which way helps just by the feel of the pedal.

Good luck with it.

There's two other things that I've seen done to get the clutch working better/correctly.

1. Get a bit of rod the same diameter as the push rod that comes out of the slave cylinder and weld a bit on to the end.

2. Take off the arm, heat it up and bend it - towards the slave cylinder.

The second one sounds a bit of a "Dodgy Brothers" but it does work.

Cheers

Both are 'dodgy brother's' if you need to do that, then you should be looking elsewhere...
