I have a dry suspension and is very bumpy.

How can I get a smoother ride?

Haha..move somewhere with smoother roads..that wouldn't be anywhere here..

Seriously though, it is a mini..i wouldn't expect too much, though mine is pretty good after i replaced the cones. Doesn't 'jolt' you anymore on a big bump, you notice them still, but it doesn't 'hurt'...i suppose at almost twice the thickness and soft rubber it's gotta make a difference.

I find my hydro to be a little bumpy, but if I drive fast enough I dont notice after a while

As you are driving in Tassy..I'd say the cones have saged so they need replacing..
Beffa I'd say your riding on the bumpers stops and the Hydro system is low..I think I worded that nicely ..it almost came out the wrong way

does the size of the hilo really make a difference in how it performs??

i have some "heavy duty" ones that have been galvanised. they fit nicely..i feel a slight difference in the back. (not done the front yet)

One problem i have with them is that the bolt doesnt screw all the way in. It needs to have thread all the way to the head of the bolt..slightly dissapointing considering i payed 50 dollars for each of them.

It is the contact surface of the hi-lo onto the rubber. A big surface, especially one that is shaped towards the cone, will give a stiffer spring rate. Small contact surface and/or curved away from the cone = softer.
