i've talked about this before but here it is, i will try to describe a noise i hear when throttle is pressed.

when idling - no noise
when foot off throttle - no noise

when i apply the throttle, only when moving i can hear a noise that could be a drive shaft bearing or rubbing as it turns. I asume its a drive shaft cos it only happens when you press the throttle to drive!, hope you're still with me?. it sounds like its coming from centre to drivers side underneath the motor, is there any simple tests i can do to find out what it is ?

Please help :?

sounds like the noise i was getting before my car threw one of its U bolts...does it make the noise in all gears under power? coz mine didnt make any noise (or atleast not enuff to hear) when i was cruising in 1st...which is what i had to do when the u-bolt eventually gave up the ghost on the freeway :) was exciting...crunch crunch crunch...bang bang crunch bang...uh-oh...better pullover :P

You'll need a grease gun and a workshop manual.. Any decent mini workshop manual should have diagrams of where each grease nipple is.

Flicking through the haynes manual last night and found that it could be the final drive gear/bearing etc. Please tell me that this can be fixed with engine in :?

in the manual they call the noise
" noise on drive, quiet on overdrive" - does this mean quiet when you take your foot off the throttle ?

thanks

ANything internally in the gearbox is 99.9% only fixable with the motor out and motr/gearbox split . Is there anyone over in perth that can have a look at this and see what it is for Sean , he'll be a nervous wreck before he sorts it out at this rate . Basically I think you need someone who know's mini's to look at it and find the problem , there's only so much you candescribe in writing when it comes to mini noises .....

Nope. Big job - wouldn't tackle it myself!

Yep. When the car is pushing the engine, rather than when the engine is driving the car.

Before pulling the engine & gearbox out, rule out the other things suggested here already, especially the driveshafts/joints. Good Luck!
