Hi All,

If a Cooper S engine has been restamped how can still id the engine to be sure it is a genuine MK1 or MK2 Cooper S motor? :?

The Cooper S motor is the only 1275 with side covers over the tappet chest. 8)

If it has side covers and it is a 1275 it must be a Cooper S.

Mk1s had a thin bottom flange, Mk2s had a thick one. usually... :lol:

I have found that with most Cooper S with the engine number ground off that if you look very carefully you can usually make out 12YD/Ta/H***** 8)

The owner can only decify "cfmsh". Never heard of that combo. No tappets covers so not a cooper anyway.

MK 1 block casting number is AEG312. Located on rear of block just above flange and below oil gallery to oil pump.
