hi,
When doing an oil change with an oil cooler in system do you need to disconnect or just let it drain out.

How much extra oil is needed to fill this and the piping from there to the engine.

Cheers

You don't need to disconnect the oil cooler, just let it drain. I allow about an extra 500ml for the cooler and piping..

Oil cooler holds bugger all- I just drain the box, do the filter and refill.
Or rather, I did- the cooler is off now. 8)

Just a thought....for those that have coolers fitted....should you flush them out every zillion miles or so....are the galleries such that crud can build up etc :)

When I ran one I used to flush it every rebuild/engine swap, using turps- until it ran out clean.
But, none of these were catastrophic blowups. Most racers reckon if you have one of those and it gets full of metal etc, chuck it away- as you will never get it all out.
