I change the oil and filter at 300 km - give the motor a chance to bed in the rings and bearings.

Do it again at 1000 km as well

Then you should be right - do read the threads current on running in a motor

I'd fill it with your Penrite, rings are bedded in by now anyway.

Of course you top up the oil if you are loosing it - run the motor for 300 km and then change the oil and the filter.

If you have an oil leak then it needs to be fixed but thats a different issue to the question you asked. The reason we say 300 km is that it give the reciprocation of the motor to waer in the high spots on the rings and bearing (and any other component ) and these worn bits of swarth either collect in the sump or the filter.

Its a process of running in and is going to happening - changing the oil too early doesn't give it long enough for the process to be complete - so 300 km and then at 1000 km to be sure.

lets cover GR's arse on this subject of running in oil - he doesn't specifically reccomend K-mart oil, he simply says that its a good quality sort of oil that does a reasonable job doing what an oil should do in a running process. Small point but significant. I get worried when concrete statements get attributed, on a public forum, to an identity who didn't actually make that statement in that context.

Use something that makes your gearbox smoother (ie less crunchy!). It's your gearbox that should be of higher priority to your engine, IMO.

I get what Mike is saying... we better not say that GR "recommends" this oil, unless we hear him actually say "I recommend".

Kevin
I have no doubts about that, I have heard him talk about it in a lecture situation but he uses phrases like or similar to "its as good as anything else and better than most".

I am commenting on the choice of words used by others in a public forum that could have blowbacks that bite GR unnecessarily on the bum.
