 Post subject: mini bearing replacement

Hi all, i am trying to remove the wheel flange out of the hub so i can replace the bearings but it wont budge. am i doing something wrong?

i have removed the drum and the castlellated nut, and put a wheel puller on it but all it does is push the drive shaft in instead of pulling the flange out.
Any suggestions

You need a slide hammer (puller) screwed onto a wheel stud. 8)

Are they just a tight fit or do they seize in the hub???

The bearings are a pretty neat fit on the drive flange, with old age sometimes they get stuck.
When you pull it out, often the outermost bearing comes apart and leaves its inner ring stuck on there.
If so I carefully thin the ring down in 1 spot with angle grinder, almost to the shaft- then split it with a hammer and chisel.

Don't pull the swivel hub off the CV and whack the drive flange from the back- you will just bellmouth it, and the bearings won't fit anymore.... :evil:

Polish the spindle with 180 wet/dry paper to remove any burrs, the bearings should be a slide-on fit.
If the spindle is grooved by the bearings, go find a better drive flange.

Put the drum back on the wheel studs backwards, screw the 4 (standard) nuts on backwards but leave them loose enough so that you can slide the drum on-&-off about half an inch and hit the flat surface of the nuts - one custom made slide hammer 8) (fits all drum braked cars :? - also easy to carry with the car all the time for those pesky roadside running repairs without taking up valuable space) :lol:
