Just taken the head of my 1098 moke engine to get it worked on, but my question is what should i have done to it, is it worth getting it converted to unleaded? what about gaskets, i need to get them for the head, manefold, and rocker cover, is there any brands to get or stay away from. any other tips related to the head that should know?

Cheers Cam

yes take it to a machine place and have them recondition it - they will know what to do and fitting hardened exhaust valve seats should be part of the process. They should hot dip it to clean out all the crub in the water ways, check and replace worn valve guides, replace as necessary any worn or damaged valves, replace the exhaust seats as above, regrind all vales and seats and finally they should skim the head mating surface to a true flatness.

As for gaskets - you need a VRG kit (Valve regrind kit) and the best types are the mono torque type of gaskets. Karcraft have them as metro Turbo gasket kits. It has everything you need.

Karcraft has the `turbo gasket' aka Payen BK450, but that's for a 1275 only. Not a 1098.
ACL Monotorque gaskets for 850-998-1098 are available from Repco, AutoPro, AutoBarn, etc.
Dunno why Kc doesn't carry them.. they are the best about at the moment.
