I use a method passed down to me by a couple of nice old Mini repairers who used to run Telltune (Seven Hills).
I take a 3/8" bolt, position it so the head is just inside the idler bearing, and give it 6 or 8 quick tack weldss with the MIG.
Then I put an 850 diff drive flange over it, fit a nut and washer and wind it out.
You are going to bin the bearing anyway, so no matter it now has a bolt attached.
But being a skinflint I grind the bearing off the bolt, & save bolt for next time!
To remove the other idler one in the gearbox casing, I use a piece of 1/2" threaded rod, some nuts and my socket selection.
After I get those 2 circlips out...
