It is in near perfect condition.

New valves, valve seats etc

It has some mild head work but nothing dramatic

Hope that helps

Matt

I sold one about two years ago for about the same money $400
It has been freshly reco'd - that is ; skimmed, unleaded exhaust seats, new guides and one new valve. All the valve seats were recut and ground. That cost me $250 to have done and I paid about $100 for the original head.

Base your selling price on about $400 for a good head. For not much more (give or take maybe three hundred- mostly give) you can have a worked 12G202 from just about any head developer - just as a guide

The 998 cooper was a head designed for a 1100, they are more rare, and are the best standard head for 998's or 1100's. I believe

The stroke is 0.296" longer on the 1098. Same bore and rods. Piston deck height shorter by 0.148" on the 1098.

edit> typo

An ordinary 998 head is usually a 12G202 head that is very functional but pretty basic in terms of gas flow and gas burning characteristics. The valves are relatively small and restrictive in terms of fuel mixture in and out. But its a head that has lots of spare metal and lends itself to head modifications fairly well.

The 12G295 is a head designed for the more sportysmall bore type A series (Coopers, MG1100s and some sprite/midgets) It has a much better combustion chamber design, bigger valves, better ports and usually uprated valve springs.

It (12G295 head) alone gives a healthy increase in performance on any A series motor but when matched with a sporting camshaft, better carburation and extractors can really make a quick little car.

so what would the difference in Kw or bhp be between a stock 998 and a stock 1098? roughly.

thanks for all the info. So i would probably be better off getting a 12G295 rather than having my 12G202 modified?
