This moke on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... &rd=1&rd=1

When i looked at the photo of the engine - the space between the thermostat housing and the rocker cover, the breather behind the block and other things, I wondered if this is actually a 1.3 as stated in the advert.

I sent a mesage to the advertiser asking what the engine number was and a short explanation of how the engine number prefix gives an indication of the engine size. The advertiser has apparently decline to respond.

What do others think of the engine. ??

I can accept innocent ignorance of mini mecanicals but I dont like blatant deception particularly when its starting attract fairly serious money from buyers who are probably not mini literate.

Comments ???

Definately not a 1275. Since I've just got a 1275 to transplant into my moke i can see the differences.

The motor has the same configuration as my 998. Breather is in the same position. The heater tap is not at an agle like on a 1275 head and there aren't the extra nuts visible near the heater tap that secure the head down. So its a 998 or 1100.

Seen a lot of people putting "californian" in their add headings. Certainly caused a few people grief when they've bought on the sole information of pictures and another persons word !!

Buyer beware !!

Will you also send the seller a message (simply modify your post slightly) as I have come to believe this seller is quite aware that this is not a 1275 because of the lack of response to mine and various other messages and it therefore becomes deception.

That dosnt really mean that its not a 1275, only the cooper S 1275 came out with 11 head studs standard. Non Cooper S 1275's still only had 9 studs.

Going by the angle of the thermostat housing, its air pump mount, and the head's air injection ports, and heater outlet angle, it's a late 998.
NOT a 1275 head.

hanra - totally agree about the number of studs but there are other indications that this motor that is fitted is not a 1275. Non cooper 1275 blocks did not have provison for tappet cover breathers. Simply no tappet covers.

From the engine bay photos it definately looks like the moke is a 1275 (Engine steady design etc) but the engine fitted is not a 1275.

Still only "learning" so I don't know all the ins and outs about heads so these sorts of things are a good experience.

The engine steady arrangement and thermostat housing are identical to mine as it is at the moment and its exactly like Doc called it a late version 998....

TT :)

I have no proof this person is dodgey - just that a number of things arn't adding up.

He/she may well be dead straight, not mini literate and unable to respond to the many messages to them.

okay then the person is honest - I am pleased.

The sale can proceed without any disapointment at the end of the auction.
