As per title - how to remove the spot welded vent on the drivers side?

I just have to drill the spot welds out right? Anyone had luck with a normal drill bit or do I have to get a spot weld remover bit? What diameter?

Cheers

A spot weld drill bit is the best mate as it only realy leaves a flat drill mark, not a tapered point like a normal drill bit.. But a normal drill bit is ok just have to be a little more carfull thats all . Start of with a small drill and work your way up to one that is just bigger then the spot weld.....

aslong as you get all the weld it should. Just slide a chisel or something underneath it after drilling the welds to prise it off. Its been there for years it might take some encoragment

After drilling the spotwelds out I'm pretty sure I had to cut or bend the vent box to manouevre it out between the upper and lower rails of the dash.

Yes, use a spotweld bit if possible.

I flattened a normal drill bit and it works a treat on the spotwelds I've been doing - basically just reduced the angle of the cutting edge on my bench grinder ;)

They were on most 850s, also all Deluxe, Mini K, MiniMatic- basically all non-cooper roundnose.

Back then only the Cooper & S got a real heater standard, the rest of use froze- unless you got the freshair one as an option.
MiniMatic had this standard, to help cool the motor. 8)
