Hi there,

I am just wondering if you can buy any type of alarm and it will fit a mini and also if you can get central locking? Also, what brand is good value for money?

I want to add to the security of my car other than the immobiliser I have.

Any type of alarm will be ok as long as you have room to fit it. As for central locking, and few people have tried it (the majority on here prefer to lift their left arm ), do a search and you should find some info.

I have an alarm with central locking kit suit a Rover Mini...
maybe with some modification you could get it to fit and work properly

I've got an alarm and imobiliser in the BOC - required for insurance. Couldn't be f'd doing the central locking, tho.

is your a round nose ?? cause i don;t think you can put central locking in it unless yours a leyland

i have a pageguard alarm system with central locking. central locking in my leyland mini took a lot of modifing but i was able to make it work perfectly.

I know the guys in Lifestyle Store at Parramatta can do the central locking in any of the mini's, they have to make certain parts for it to work. And i'm guessing for that they will charge a bit but hey they would do a professional job.

i did the modifing myself.

I've fitted central locking to one of my clubbies (with lift up handles). Not too difficult if you've got a mind for it and the ability to make little brackets etc...

I've looked at putting it into one of the roundies I've had (with the 'twisty' handles) and the only way it could be done would be to make up your own lock assembly and work out some way of concealing it and fitting it to the doors...

Ive seen central locking done on a roundy with early doors...... the actuator simply pushed a 10mm steel pin from inside the door thru a hole in the B pillar under the regular catch - kinda like the locks you would find on most new car fuel flaps.

All it needs to do is stop the handle from being pushed down.....

Try using solinoid operated shotbolts that go into the B-pillar from the door??

I know it sounds silly, but someone told me about it, that they'd seen it done on a mini ....Can't remember who said that though.

I was going to do it to the clubby, got the actuators cheap, but they were a bit big to fit in the doors, but anytings possible, for a roundnose, as said above, it's possible, but I don't think it's practical, but clubby/rover, go for it!
