Does anybody use exhaust joint compound on the standard manifold, exhaust and flange or do you trust the exhaust without?

I recently installed a standard exhaust and I
had to use that red coloured exhaust sealant.
No leaks now

Definitely a great idea to use sealant on any exhaust.

When I had a standard exhaust I used gasket sealant and it still use to leak after a while. I changed to extractors, no more leaks!

On a good exhaust pipe with a cast iron clamp I don't use any but with a worn pipe (flange) and the crappy pressed metal clamps I put a thin smear on the flange and on the inside of the clamp . Not a lot , just a little to help it seat and seal .

Back in the day I always used that Maniseal putty on the standard joint. The seal never lasted very long though, with the engine rocking around it'd crack and leak fumes into the car.

These days I still use it, but on the extractors.. it seals much better when the pipes are already a good slide fit.

i impregnate fiberglass cloth with exhaust cement, wrap it arround the joint, then put the clamp on. works good, as long as the rest of the exhaust is on good!

I've only had one mini that had problems with the flange leaking , all the rest were good and sealed tight . Make sure you've got the exhaust bolted tight and square to the body and manifold before you put the clamp on so there's less movement and get one of the older cast iron manifold clamps if you can .

It wouldn't have helped that the engine had ripped the top steady bar mounts off, so flapped around the engine bay like a wet fish

Yeah, I used Maniseal, sealed my dodgy joints due to old thrashed out exhaust flanges etc. - Also got me passed my roadworthy.
