Some more details of the motor would help , is it an electric or mechanical fuel pump ? Pulsar or similar electronic distributer or points ? Have you checked to see if you have spark or fuel when it stops and won't start ?

It could be electrical with the coil failing and overheating after running a while or could be points needing adjusting or replacing . It could also be a fuel pump problem that only cuts in when it's hot but I'd lean more towards electrical . Nest time it does it get someone to give you a hand and check if you have spark , then take the distributer cap off and open the points with an INSULATED screwdriver while the ign is switched on to see if you have power to the points .

Points are dirt cheap (under $5 last set from memory ) , you say the coil is new , is it the same type as the previous one ? If you put a coil that needs a resister on it on a car without it you'll burn the points out and have problems (normally it'll just stop though , no going again when it's cool) .

Long shot, but check the rocker clearance on the exhaust valves.
I had a Chev 4 paddock basher once that did that, I found the prob was the exhaust valves got longer with heat, this closed up the clearance then there was no compression until it cooled for 15 mins.

with the engine cool (but ign on) check to temp of the coil. i know you said its new but it sounds like a second hand one.

if it's hot it's knackered, and you're up for a new one. get a bosch GT40 (around 50 bucks from the usual suspects :))

Just a random question. Has anyone ever imported an engine from the UK? and if so does it cost a fortune?

There's a motza of local guys who do this in bulk. Brikworx, Josh at miniimports, etc etc.... They will save you a bundle on doing it yourself. But if something very particular has your attention then yeah it can be done. But be prepared to spend a bit of money.
