Hi

I have a set of twin 1.5 Su carbs and need some air filters,

Looking at K&N which are realtivley cheap and easy to post.

The question is will they fit.

I have located a set part number http://www.knfilters.com/search/product ... od=56-9320 they have an offset hole

The manifold is a standard twin SU 1.25 alu modified to fit 1.5's

Regards

Yes - I have the same setup ready for the "historic rally mini" project... and a pair of 56-9320 - should fit with no problems.

And if you want stubstacks to go in there I make them to suit 1-1/4" and 1-1/2" SU, straight or offset as shown.

Straight ones are $50/pr, the offset ones $60/pr (more work).
Prices include post.

I've been looking for these filters for ages  now I have a part number we'll see if they can find one for me.

What's the benefit of the substack? and dose it go between the filter and the carb?

The stubstack goes inside the filter against the backplate, basically it puts a radius on the mouth of the carb. You can see up to 5% improved airflow according to Vizard.
These also fit Ramflo filters.

They are worth it IMHO. I run K&N filters with Kev's stubstacks for that bit of extra bling 8)

I don't make them for HS6 or HIF44, with those it's easier to stick the carby in a lathe and machine a radius in it.

No, it made no real difference mixture wise to my wife's car, I'm still using #6 needles in it. But it's got better throttle response and more top end. 8)

Discussion-
Well you could do that I guess, but I only have a small bench lathe... I would have to make tooling up to hold it-and after you put a radius in the carb mouth, you then have to cut the hole in the backplate bigger to clear the radius, etc etc......
I just let GR machine the 1-3/4 carbs. `
OTOH, these HS2 and HS4 stubstacks are a development of the Weber & Dellorto ones I already make from 65mm alloy bar.
Making HS6 or HIF44 ones I would need much bigger bar, and have lots of waste, so they would cost more.

Here is my setup - as bought off eBay not yet overhauled...

Filters backing put loosely in place (too cold to go and find bolts in the garage ;-) )

A close fit but do fit... otherwise when fitted will look similar to other pictures posted in the thread (though they are using maniflow manifold)
