Hi,

Friend of mine bought a new UK steering rack, wants to fit it to his 65 Deluxe. He has cooper s discs, hi-los, adjustable lower control arms, adjustable tie rods.

Is there a problem with fitting this rack? I remember hearing somewhere that it turns too much (to reduce the turning circle in UK cars) and aussie tyres scrub.

Are the steering arms compatible?

Anyone got any first hand experience with these?

From memory I think the steering arms need to be changed, but I've never used a UK rack myself.

I'm pretty sure the rack in my '65 is a UK type, never had any problems with it.

should go straight in - it's the 13" wheels that cause problems with them

he might find that it doesn't last long though, heresay is that the new ones wear out quickly

The steering arms are compatible, but you should change them to match..

The black deluxe (ex lownblowns') that I've posted pics of had one in. Same lock -to-lock as the Aussie one. Be warned though that if they are worn in any way, they are non repairable.

Some late UK racks have stops fitted to reduce the steering lock so that Sportspack 13" wheels don't rub.

Mk II and later UK racks should have the matching steering arms (with little cast ears). However, I've seen many fitted with standard Oz arms. Seems to still work.
