Hi,

I've got a moke 140kph speedo (860 turns per kilometre) in my 1293.

I checked it against my satnav and it appears to be 100% accurate.

Can anybody hazard a guess at to what diff I've got in the car.

10 inchers with 165/70 Falkens on them.

I don't have an operational Tacho at the moment.

depends what speedo drive you have in the gearbox... obviously it's the correct one for the diff

Fair enough, Didn't think of that. The gearbox and speedo have come out of two different cars, so I guess that I'm just lucky that they are an accurate combination.

I'll try and work it out when I get my tacho working.

With those tyres I think you should be looking at 3750rpm @ 100km/h with a 3.44 diff.

You have a 3.647:1 diff, an 860 turn/km Moke speedo is spot on with this ratio (and 165/70-10 Bridgestones) over the 5km road markers. :wink:
I had one in Barney.

There is also an 800 turns/km 140KMH Moke one, they are pretty close to correct with a 3.444 diff and 10" wheels.

I seem to remember that the tacho used to read about 4000RPM at 100 KMH. Mind you the last time I had this engine in a car was 1995!

So Doc is the Moke speedo in KMH? My 65 Deluxe has a 90 MPH speedo and I wanted to change to KMH so it should work if I can find a 860 turn/km Moke speedo?

(I think I have 3.6 ratio - whatever was in the 65 deluxe - 3 synchro box and 10" tyres)

Yes later Mokes were KMH.
Bad news for you- the 998 Deluxe was 3.765:1 (same as 850). It's the Mini-K (and 1098 Clubby) that got the 3.647 diff.
It won't read correct, but not too far out.

Christ, you reckon they could have made it any more complicated??

Linus' speedo always read a tad high, but I knew that so I was ok. Then the speedo died. Don't know why, haven't had the time to check, and I'm not sure I'd know what to look for anyway. Now I just go by revs, and the rest of the traffic around me :D
