The Mini I bought for a resto ('78 Clubman) had no heater parts with it but I have pulled out the heater from a Clubbie which had been sitting out in a paddock for a few years. Amazingly the fan still works and the matrix has been given to a radiator shop to get it rodded out & tested. I have also ordered a universal heater tap to replace the one that is completely corroded and ceased. All brackets have been removed (rivets drilled out), sanded and repainted.

This is the heater as removed (click for bigger pic) :

However...
I need to know what the air direction flap needs to get refurbished (what does a new one look like?) and whether it's possible (and how) to remove the flap from the casing?

Also - what "goo" do I use to seal the two halves back together? Is had some kind of black rubberised sealer when I took it apart.

You can get the self adhesive foam sheets (about A4 size I think) and cut it to fit with scissors from Clarke Rubber. Comes in various thicknesses to suit your needs. Cant help with the black glue, I've only done a roundie heater.

So its wrecked because its blocked?? Isnt that the whole reason for getting it rodded?

What did the radiator shop expect to find?

They probably expected their rods to be able to poke the gunk out. If they can't get the rods through the core it means that they are really blocked and it needs a new core.
They can only do so much, they can't perform miracles.

They rodded it out (mostly) and each time they pressure tested it, another leak appeared and just kept blowing holes in it :?

I have already found a good replacement fortunately, but will still need to fix up the foam around the core & air direction flap later.

Rare spares sells what looks like the right one for about $70. Saves on mucking around trying to adapt it. Will get one soon and post about it.

I got this one for $27 and only thing it needs is a 90deg bend in the heater pipe (s per Wild willy's thread in the How To section). Very little mucking around required.
