| Post subject: | Grill screw/carpet stud spacers |
Hi guys, I'm about to make some Cooper S grill screw spacers and I believe these were also used on Aussie carpet dome studs. Would somebody be kind enough to take a nice close up of one so that I can see how deep the radius is on the concave side please. Also, the book (AKD3509) says there are 12 used but there are only 8 screws. What's the go there?

The first hit on Google shows a number of posts on the Minicooper.org forum by a bloke called Al who hails from Chrisrchurch, NZ. Looks like it's been a protracted search for you, Al? |

Gee Winabbey, Thank you so much. I missed these posts on Ausmini but I was certainly involved with the MCR posts. This is one of those jobs that has been hanging around for a while and it's time I completed it. All I have to do now is work out which screws have two, if in fact they do. I just spoke to John Smidt at Mini King. He has supplies of this part but in metal, not plastic. I suppose it depends on how authentic you want the part to be. I'll be getting some of his that I'll paint black so it would be very difficult to distinguish from the original, and they should last forever. Doc - as one of the leading part fabricators on Ausmini have you thought of producing a stock supply of this part in plastic? |

I've bought some black plastic to make them, so no problems there. I have a hunch that, although people report they are concave in the sides, they were probably made straight and the screw tension has belled them. They will be easy enough to make though and I intend fitting them with a dob of urethane as they will be right tits to hold in place while you get the screws started. Regards Al |

The rivets do tend to crank down with a fair level of force.. |
