When I pull motor out to change camshaft, the new followers which I put in, is there an advantage to having oil drain holes in the followers
Do I need to renew pushrods as well

Yes Simon I was looking at those ones, but are they not for racing engines though, mines only a 998 with a GR ground RE13 cam ( when I send it to him to get done that is )

The real cheap ones available now are cheap (quality) you get what you pay for. I use either the Minispares lightened ones or their Isky style ones. If you have a good set of originals that are not chipped, GR can reharden and radius grind them. Don't just turf em out. |

I just get the originals re surfaced, there better quality than most of the new ones these days. As for rehardening them, I have never bothered and have never had an issue, nor did I ever have an issue with around 800 000 000 lifters I refaced with a Repco machine while working in the engine shop. It has been said that the lifters with the hole in them can crack so If you are going to reface old lifters use a set without a hole. (I have never seen a broken A series lifter, tho I have seen a lightened Grey motor Holden lifter in a race mini engine break, along with the crank  )

I have .... albeit in a race motor..... New followers (good ones) are cheap insurance.... http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=48171 And yes the engine lives.... GR straightened and reground the cam 
Different engine builder (from one who re-used old lifters!) - got remains of lifter out..... and replaced pistons/bearings. New Cam timing gear... new rockers ... replaced valve.... New valve springs... and New Isky type Followers.... and new old stock Rover pushrods.... (and oil pump while all apart) ... and strip and clean gearbox.... and all good so far !! |
