Hey Guys
I have Just found that my heater has been disconected by the previouse owner would there be any reason for this?
some one told me it could be that it is leaking or it is cracked or something could any one tell me what it could be.
and any one know of a price of a new one is or what ever new old whatever one that works.
Thanks

Probably the vavlve that needs replacing. You can buy these new, and i dont think that they cost that much. They always seize up and sometimes leak, so its worth replacing!

Sometimes the heater is disconnected because one of the hoses has split. It may also be a leaking heater core or valve. Just pull the heater box out and check the core and clean the box out while you are there, flush the core out and fit some new hoses and you are ready for winter.

I cut and welded the brackets to raise the heater up under the dash more (out of sight) but I have decided that I'm not putting one back in JAM...I hate the look of clubby heaters! :x

So I have 2 if anyone needs one.

Both my current minis require many layers of clothing in the winter. No heaters included!

Mine doesn't...it get's quite hot inside, with all the heat from the exhaust running down the firewall and underneath the car :)

Can I take my heater core and use it as an extra rad under the hood? Maybe mount it where an oil cooler is fitted?!? What do you think?

JAM, that would be fine, just a pita to route all piping I would assume.

maybe a PITA...but surely it's just the rubber hoses that would normally feed into the cabin. And on that subject....how many Mini's leak from that point where the hoses enter the cabin! :x I know JAM did, and Pops does!!!

I wouldn't bother Anton, you will just make the engine bay look cluttered and if the rad is good and the engine build is good, it won't overheat. Keep it simple i say! 8)

Cheers

Aaron

BlackRZ, mine was seized also, the valve was one big chunk of corrosion.
If you still have a heater in the car its more than likely just the valve and some hose that needs replacing. I pulled my entire heater system out, cleaned all the crap, replaced the valve with a Universal Holden/Ford valve and put it all back together, reconnected the hoses to the right place, now it all works perfectly.
The levers to the dash and valve prolly need some CRC assisted TLC, but if you're lucky they'll work again.
Note though that the Holden/Ford valve has bigger diameter inlet and outlet, but I put my hoses in really hot water and pushed like hell.. they fit ;)

Piece of cake. Just mount the core behind the grille and shorten the hoses.
 Or fit a $50 MiniMatic heater, then you can have heat in the car and extra rad cooling!
As Aaron says though the extra cooling is hardly needed, unless you have a crap hot (big) motor.. :P
