Hi Guys,

So just got my newly rebuilt engine, and have been continually told all these little tricks of the trade, do's and dont's before and after starting the engine, and running in techniques... etc blah blah blah...

I won't list up What I've been told, but if you post up what you suggest/ do, to ensure things don't go wrong... and I'll add to the list of mine, if I haven't already got it

Flog it from new! Thats my theory.. If it brakes it has warranty. Plus it will go a lot harder than if you baby it!

Make sure the motor is in the engine bay right side up. ( oil pump tends to labor on its head)

Canola is not good for running in a new motor.

Make sure motor has Pistons, if pistons are present make sure you cant see them cos if you can you may need a reco head, or you have a bloody big hole in your block( if the latter is true give your engine reco man a smack up side his head cos he is obviously retarded or drunk)

Make sure all spark plugs look like spark plugs not cork bungs( cork bungs smell like red wine)

Make sure you have at least 1 oil leak( most minis have 1) its a good indication oil is where its supposed to be

Use nuts and bolts to hold the motor in the car as string and duct tape just dont work

Put the bonnet back on( if you havnt tripped over it and kinked the buggary out of it)

Look out for wasp nests in and around the engine bay

My mate asked me once if my rebuilt engine leaked oil, of course i said no as it didnt at the time, he told me to take it back and get one installed.

If you have a new cam, remember to run that in on start up.

Just drive it "Normally" if it`s going to be a "Normal" road car

It's not a normal engine, its been beavfed up, got a fair bit of race gear in it, but its not over the top.. So I would say its a taste of both worlds.. if that makes sense

I put the new oil container in a bucket and fill it with hot water, to warm up the oil. Once I have filled the engine with the warm oil I use the hot water in the bucket to fill the radiator, that way on start up you allready have a engine at running temp, easier to tune, rev etc.

that was my lucky thread lol.

i just drove mine easy lockie for about 1000km never hit over 80ph.

loaded it up hills never revved it hard at all.

once it hit the 1000km mark i then started to give it a bit more, as in normal driving on the highway 100 or 110 etc

I did not thrash it at all untill 2000km & it's been happy days, engine is perfect inside.

I stripped it to upgrade for the sc12 but it's perfect inside.

everyone has a different opionion that contradicts everyone else, and everyone swears by their way.

both sides have merit, but i can tell you how to NOT run in a motor if you want. don't deliver piizzas with a fresh motor. not good
