 Post subject: oil pressure

Hey i had a quick look but couldnt see anything.

Ive just installed a oil pressure gauge and im wondering what a decent oil pressure would be in my 1100cc?

Cold it could reach 100 psi, but anything over 60 would be quite good.

Hot over 25 psi but closer to 40 would be happier.

ok cool thanks do it reading about 70 when i first turned the car on is ok?

Also whats the lowest the oil pressure can get before it starts to be dangerous?

A fresh motor should have 60psi hot @ 2500rpm and up, unless it's a Cooper or S- they run about 70psi when new.
Once an engine gets down to 40psi max when hot it needs new bearings and/or a new pump, in my experience.
Hot idle, down to 15psi is OK, it's not too bad yet.

70 sounds good. The relief valve should be set somewhere around there anyway.

Hot at idle, I would want to see no less than 15 but would be happier with 20. On drive, hot, no less than 30.

70 is perfect

when she starts to get low pressure (below 25ish) top the oil up or change the oil & filter. if it doesn't rise its more investigation
