Some time back I purchased a pneumatic grease gun - used it today for the first time - when I have used the manual gun in the past it will take about 4-5 stokes and grease starts to come out at some point indicating "you've got plenty in there". With this new gun one pull of the trigger and grease is everywhere and I not sure if any is getting in where it should. The nozzle appears to be locked on to the nipple and I'm pushing on as hard as but still oozes around the nipple and not out elsewhere.

Any thoughts?

What brand is it? Some guns have an adjustable nozzle and some have a useless nozzle. My Macnaught gun is great, it does not leak.
You may need to buy a better nozzle.

One trick that can work is to is to hold a bit of rag over the nipple and push the gun onto the rag and nipple together. This will help seal the fitting and if it leaks it ends up in the rag.

You should not need to push the nozzle once it is on the nipple, it should stay there on its own. You only need to hold it straight.

metric gun versus imperial nipples.

My exspensive gun has this issue basically have to force the grease gun nozzle of the nipple and makes a mess

PITA to be honest

Is it on your ball joints and have you replaced them?

yep Kiwiinwgtn is correct here. I grease my dad's 24 tonne truck for him every 3 months after his travels around Aus, and well I dread it, cos the air grease gun is a PITA... it leaks, and can all of a sudden work great, then next minute it has an air lock and the grease isant coming though, so you must prime it by hand.. and it is an expensive truck brand.. tho I have my nick nacks and you can get it to work fairly well after you've done it 100 times or more... one of the reasons he leaves it to me..

Hold it with a rag like suggested and apply pressure to it, and sometimes if you put the nozzle on a particalar/ just the right angle on the nipple this will help it..

Also make sure you clean the grease nipple very well before applying the nozzle.

At home I'm known as the Grease Monkey

might be worth popping the nipple off and checking its clean and opens ok too.

Take nipple off and check that it is actually letting grease through. Sometimes the little ball bearing gets jammed.

Also, on my grease gun I can tighten the bit that plugs onto the nipple. It screws to tighten it and I have to unscrew it to loosen.

I have a big Mcnaught blue one - brilliant.
