I had a problem where one of my unis let go at it destroyed the nylon caps.

They were replaced with rubber unis, but I'm having some clearance issues, even after they were taken to with the grinder.

Basically, I'm trying to source some new nylon caps. Any advice?

Ryan

You can buy the whole QL5000 joint new again, but I don't think the caps/cups are available separately.

Thanks Doc,

can you point me in the direction of a store. Had a quick look at minisport SA online store and couldn't see them.

I will do a search.

At the moment, I'm only getting a bit of noise at high speed (eg 80kmh +). At first I thought it was wheel bearings. But pulled them apart this arvo and it looks fine, no play etc. this sound only started after putting the rubber unis in.

I have enough caps for one side.
If i were to put the nylon style back in to test if this is indeed my problem, would there be an issue with having rubber one side, nylon the other (just to test, not permanently.)

Karcraft stocks them, p/no QL5000. Around $100 PAIR.

Don't overtighten the nuts- 8lb/ft MAX is correct I think.

thanks doc.

Do you see a problem with running nylon on one side and rubber on the other side just to see if it definantly fixes the prob. (I don't want to spend $100 for nothing).

I just check their stock, they presently have none on hand and no 'due date' either. Cricky, these have gone up since I last bought some.

Minispares seems to have in stock-

I do have a drawing (not mine) for the nylon cups if you want to get some made-
I won't post them on here though, PM me for a copy.
ps i also have a drawing for steel cups.
Note the U/J inside these kits is same as a Triumph TR6, can be bought separate.

There are QL5000s on ebay. some new, some NOS, often they will be less than $100 delivered ;)

When you put the rubber unis in did you make sure the wheel was at about normal ride height (wedge under the top arm)?

If not they will be "tweaked" under uneven pressure, giving you vibration and other issues.

cheers.

Jacob

I just put a set of these in my car. Just check the U bolts before you put them in because 7/8 of mine were too far apart (were more like 170°) so wouldn't fit through the yokes. I had to put the nuts on them and squash them down in the vice to make them fit.

Wilo is right.

He also mentioned the clearance issues.....unfortunately he has gone away at the moment and I'm sure he would also have the nylon caps in stock (he always seems to have exactly what I need).
