Hi All,Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this alternator which also shows internals.
I know it has an external regulator mounted on the guard.
My ign light is not working and battery is not charging.
I did find a broken wire at terminal "D" on the alternator and it has been repaired, but still no light with ign switch on.
Note light does come on when terminal D on regulator or alternator is shorted to ground.
Thanks Felix

Is the globe blown in the ignition warning light? That will prevent it from charging properly.

The following thread includes a couple of page from my Lucas Australia Alternator book showing an exploded view of the internals and a wiring diagram. It's the 15AC you are after.

I still cannot get the ign light to work wiith the key selected on,as I previously said light works when ind wire put to ground.
I disassembled the alt and the diodes and brushes are ok.
Could the external regulator be the problem

If the Ignition light is not coming on when system is hooked up correctly. it means that either the Regulator or the Rotor coil are open circuit. It could also mean the brushes are worn and not connecting to the slip rings. Don't blow the regulator as they are impossible to get new and good second hand ones are few and far between.

Can still get the 4TR regs new from UK.
Latest Lucas p/no is NCB148.

1970 Cooper,
4TR superseded the 8TR. Main operational difference is you could adjust the voltage on the 8TR. NCB148 is the p/no now of the Mini 4TR one. Pinout is the same as the old 8TR.

Be careful which 4TR you get though, the Jag XJ6 ones look the same but pinout is different. As I found out....

[edit] my MiniMatic is also a 1970, it came with a 4TR fitted. So I'm not sure when the change occurred.

Adjustment screw (if it had one) was on the back...

Hi Kevin,
I just got the old reg back from auto elect and noticed the terminal ident is different than the NC148

my original one is marked
B+/+/F/-

The NC148 is marked
?/+/-/F
I thought I would check with you before I order the reg
Thanks Felix

I gave my NCB148 away with my 15AC alternator to a deserving cause (mate's Mk2S) and he is checking the pinout, however looking in the manual for 1970 Oz S and K etc, you are right, there it says + + F -.

I'll edit this shortly.

[edit] Yes the pinout on my NCB148 (bought here in Oz) is B+, +, F, - same as original.

Is the one you looked at an NCB148 or something different? (you typed NC148).
Could be for a Jag or Triumph or whatever. As I said their pinout is different (but can be used if you swap wires about)

sorry Kevin,
I miss typed it I did meanNCB148,if you look at the site in the UK you mentioned the terminals are as I said.
So if I just swap the wiring at the plug I should be able to yse that reg.
