Saw this on ebay and it sounded interesting, I haven't got to the clutch on my resto so I'm not familiar with the ins and outs.

It's a useful addition to the clutch setup, it's not absolutely needed and is definitely not a standard item but it is slightly helpful IMO.

Well that's true if you adjust it properly you won't need the spring but it's a lazy way to keep things working well. But that is a bit pricey, I've seen them for $6 on ebay.

Waste of time IMO.

I binned the arm return spring, and screwed the arm stop screw in a few turns. I now have a self-adjusting clutch, just like a Rover Mini or 99% of other cars, and all is good.
Particularly as I have a fresh air heater above it and can't get at the stop screw with the grille in. 8)

So what does it do ????... Or, rather, what is it supposed to do???

It would seem to pull the release bearing clear of the diaphragm - doing exactly the same job as the standard slave spring (which the blurb claims you still need)???

Cheers, Ian

It takes up the slack from the worn clevis pins and other worn out bits. All the worn mechanical bits uphill from the slave spring.
I would rather have things working properly to correct tolerances than cocked up with one of these.

A better bet would be to replace the worn components.

Clevis pins $15

If that won't improve things, then replace the following as well

Slave pushrod $22

Clutch Plunger $22

Lever Arm $50

Prices here from a single online Australian supplier, shop around as you like.

But for a total of $15 you will probably fix any problems that the spring purports to fix by doing it properly. The rest of the mechanical bits come in at less that $100. For that price you have a brand new set up, good for another 30-40 years instead of a band aid.

cheers
michael
