Just wondering did you get the 4 syncro box magic wand boxes in OZ.

I am looking for a case.

Back in the seventies my ex had a poverty pack mini 1100 (ex county council) and although I cant clearly remember I am sure it had a full synchro box. It certainly had a magic wand.

The four synchro remote gearbox was used with what they called a direct change (i.e. without the remote extension) in some of the poverty pack sedans and the vans and Mokes in the late '60s through to whenever the rod change boxes were phased in.

Its usually called a pudding stirrer, as opposed to a magic wand.

This is what we had for the 4 syncro...

That is the "puddin' stirrer" shift. Used in POV packs, Mokes too.

3 synchro ones before that were magic wand (had 850 style diff housing).

Back in the 60's my original Mini as with all 850s had a 3 synchro Magic Wand change - I got my Army Truck license learning on 6X6 Studebakers that had no synchro on any gear. After that it didn't matter that the Mini didn't have synchro on 1st

I have one in my van, direct change.

I've never tried it but I believe that the direct change remote boxes will fit perfectly into the same spot as an 850 magic wand box, without having to modify the hole in the floor. From the outside you wouldn't know the difference.

Although the diff housings were line bored on assembly and are theoretically not interchangeable, you can retrofit an 850 diff housing to a 4 synchro remote box.
Provided that you check the bearing bores accurately for roundness and size when bolted up.
This may entail removal of the 2 dowels, and/or machining of the diff housing flange.
Back in the `60s it was popular to do the opposite (fit a remote diff housing onto an 850 box)- the same rules apply.

That plate is required if you are using the remote type diff housing
If you convert to the 850 style diff housing then this is not Used, if You have the motor out of the car I would consider changing to pot joints whilst you are working in this area
that is if you are not looking to keep the car original
