Hmm,

it seems one of my wheel studs seems to be about 1/4" shorter than the others now and i can't get a wheel nut on when the wheel is fitted? There doesn't seem to be anything protruding at the back as though it has been pushed back???

So how does a wheel stud get shorter? I don't recall having problems putting the wheels on b4??

Also I am trying to ID my brakes, I believe they are the 7.5 cooper discs but I am not certain. The part number on the disc is 21A1865 but I cannot find a reference to it anywhere? The calipers are Lockheed and the part number appears to be 10A21241 (though the letter is hard to read through the paint).

any thoughts?

Get a photo.
If you reckon one stud is a quarter inch back from the others and you can't get a nut on, that means the other 3 only have a quarter inch engagement which isn't enough.

Hmm will get a photo tomorrow. Looking at the various sites there seems to be 2 lengths for wheel studs. Am I better off getting the 1/2" longer ones? Currently I have 12x5 minilites on but I am thinking of going to 10x6's soon.

I am willing to be corrected BUT I think there are at least 3 different length studs?

Pretty sure there is 2 sizes . Last time I was at Karcraft I got the longer ones to suit cooper discs.

ok so I have a few photos

The stud on the right is visibly shorter thant he others, I never noticed it before?


When I measure two of the studs I get the following:

Now when the wheel is fitted the gap is pretty obvious


Since I am having issues with the wheels and looking a little closer, I don't even think the wheel nuts are the right type Shouldn't they have the straight section which goes thru the rim instead of just the flange like mine have? No you have performance rims and the taper nut you are holding is the correct type. Looks like the stud is too short. You'll notice with the taper on the nut it sort of goes back through the wheel and will grab a bit of the stud but I think there should be more sticking through. On mine there is about 1/2" sticking though the wheel so it would engage about 5/8" or so. I'd have to measure it to give you an exact number.

And that short stud looks damaged. I'd ditch it for a new set once you get the length you need sorted.

Best done with the rotor OFF the car, as the hammer blows don't help the wheel bearings.

I'd say someone has busted a stud and put a flat drum (shorter) stud in there.

Hmm couldn't say, the history of the rotors is not known as i bought them second hand last year when I converted from Honda brakes.

I will try to get a new set for both sides and do them all at the same time. So are standard length ones on or should I get the 1/2" longer ones?

yeah looks like a std drum stud to me
disc studs are longer ones with a flat back/head
the drumystudss have a domed head/back

You should put your heart & soul into everything you do.

I measured my studs, with the wheel off, and they stick out about 23-24mm.
Soooo I would suggest your studs @20mm are too short
