Where should the earth wire in the boot connect?
The one in the loom near the pasenger tail lights

To the petrol tank strap? Or to one of the boot lid hinge bolts?

Thanks

Cheers Phil,

thats what i did with mine, but wasn't sure if it was correct.
it seemed too big to connect to a bonnet hinge bolt.

Thanks

No worries. Now looking at my own photo I'm wondering what the brown wire is heading off to the left???

Either the fuel pump or the fuel tank I think.

I recently found out that my brake lights weren't working - the cause was a poor earth for the brake lights with the wire as shown in the photo (attached to the tank strap) - the solution was to give the wire a bit of a wiggle and all good now. I'll remember that for next time.

Its very common for that to happen. Last time I made a loom I wired all the earthing points together, so that if one developed a bad connection another earth somewhere else would still do the job. It makes it more reliable. They probably saved $2 worth of black wire by using lots of seperate short earth wires, rather than wiring them all together.

Confirming my MK II Cooper S earth point is the same as in Phill's photo - on the tank strap bolt.
