When driving my mini with the wheel rotation I can hear a slight scrape sort-of sound.

I have figured it is something with the drive-line as sounds with the rotation of the wheels.

It doesn't get noticeable louder as I drive faster, just speeds up.
I have changed my Hardy-spicer joint that was worn and it didn't fix it
I have greased everything up.
Does not clunk going around corners
No play in ball joints
Brakes not scraping enough to make the noise.
All wheels done up tight (Don't laugh I had a noise I couldn't figure out that ended up being this once)
Cant see any boot or anything scraping on anything with the rotation of the wheel.
Wheel bearings at rear are tight and fine
Wheel bearings at front don't make noise when spinning.

So What could it be? My thoughts are

* could it be my tyres? I'm in need of some new tyres, so could it be the tread gauge bit on the tyre making it every time it hits the ground (A008 Yoko's)

*How else can you tell if front wheel bearings are gone? (I have 7.5 disc brakes) ie could it be a wheel bearing?

I don't know? What are your thoughts?

Rear tyre rubbing on trailing arms? Or one of your brake pipes/hoses?
Can you hear any noise when you jack up the car and spin the wheels one at a time?

Tried that, And didn't notice anything. But will check those things again tomorrow.

when the car is jacked up, grab the top and the bottom of the wheel and try and wiggle it. when my wheel bearings were on the way out and getting noisy (same sound as you described) i could feel a tiny amount of play when i wiggled the wheels.

Could also be a warped disk.

May be worth checking that the backing plates have clearance from the drums and disks.
I've had noises like this that have been from a backing plate only just touching.

Have done this and were tight and no movement (some sideways movement though). But will check it again tomorrow



Can you tell a warped disc by looking at it?

I had my whole drive shafts pulled out and calipers removed from hubs to change driveshaft seals and didn't notice they looked warped



If this was the case it would make the noise when spinning up in the air. but I will recheck this as well.

Tyres can make noise, drive with a passenger and windows down to try to isolate where the noise is from externally, cv boots can make noise, graphite powder shuts them up.

Mine did this, but only when I touched the brakes. After much process of elimination I found one of the RDA rotors had 2 radial cracks... (so I binned both).

I would give your tyres a very close look over for a bubble/lump , i once had a weird noise like yours years ago it drove me crazy and changed a heap of parts till i noticed a lump in the wall of the tyre .... so make sure you check both sides of each tyre.

Success is so much sweeter after the struggle

Went around there today when he had it jacked up needs new wheel bearings and bottom ball joint needs attention after that is all fixed then he can c if the noise is still here

Well ball joints were checked again and one needed adjustment and thought the wheel bearing might be good to be replaced. Upon pulling them out the CV's were not real flash either (I assume CV's and wheel bearings would be the ones from the factory).

So replaced the lot and adjusted the ball-joint and noise has gone and is all good. So it was something there doing it.
